The Christmas Dinner, held on Friday 28th December, once again proved to be an outstanding success. Over 190 members and guests, as well as an augmented kitchen staff, sat down to a splendid meal.
This was a credit to our wonderful ladies whose expertise has been rewarded by bumper attendances.
We were able to seat most people on the table grouping that they desired. Organisation was facilitated by Wally Lake, Peter Blincoe, Col Wooltorton and Roger Clement, furniture movers par excellence.
Irene Wooltorton came in to help Committee Ladies set up the table settings and decorations.
We were also appreciative of the “early work” work of Trevor Schultz who festooned the dining room with appropriate Christmas decorations. The bar staff were again superb in their service and are thanked accordingly.
Entertainment during the evening provided plenty of enjoyment and amusement. We were not a little concerned that Santa might have been affected by the climate change and toxic emissions from his reindeer. Not to worry! This was not the case as he proceeded to make presentations, mostly to our ladies. Director Margaret presented Santa with a bowl of well laced trifle as a gesture of appreciation. This would help him in chimney hopping and roof surfing over the festive season.
Our wonderful minstrel, Charles Parkingham Smith, in his inimitable fashion, amused the gathering with a series of ditties involving bowls personnel. He does a remarkable job, so much so that we will double his commission next year.
Peter Perez has provided the background music and music for dancing over the past four years. His easy manner and the music provided is much appreciated by our audiences. He is also generous with his time.
Congratulates to Jeanette Lake who won the Christmas hamper prepared by Andrew Walker (the Maxi-hamper).Not to be outdone the garden gnome (aka Alan Rogers) won a bottle of “old tennis shoes”. Maggie would not let him take it round to share with Sir Reginald Castle. The door prizes, which ran at regular intervals during the evening were donated by members of the social committee.
Coming Events on the Social Calender.
B.B.C.Trip.	At this stage the prospect of a trip to Yarrowonga is being investigated. When there is a firm costed proposal expressions of interest, followed by prior paid commitment, will be sought.
To date there is insufficient numbers (at least 40 are needed) to be confident that such a venture will be supported.
2.	Laurie Budde Classic Tournament
Members will have noted that this tournament has been shifted from the Labour day weekend to the Saturday and Sunday .
Ostensibly the aim was to increase participation as entries have been slowly dropping.
Each year the club major raffle is conducted in conjunction with this event. Members are issued with a book of 20 tickets at $ each. These will be made available by the end of January and club members are again encouraged to support this enterprise.
